IVM Backgroundinformation

The idea of creating an umbrella organization for the big Volvo meetings was originally proposed by VROM from Sweden. The Volvo Frënn Lëtzebuerg (Luxembourg Volvo meetings) and the SWISS VOLVO MEETING (SVM) have directly agreed to cooperate. Together, guidelines were developed in Sweden during the VROM meeting in August 2008 and then decided to work hard to achieve this plan.

At a meeting in Gothenburg in the beginning of February 2009, the only thing that was missing was the official name of this organization.

Basically, each country is provided in the IVM a membership organization. The patronage has Volvo Cars Heritage, the classics department at Volvo in Gothenburg. Also the IVM-located office will be located there.

The aim of the IVM umbrella organization is to move with the VROM-developed meeting philosophy through Europe. Every year each organization is carrying out a three-day event according to the meeting standards that were developed together. It is planed that one of these days will include a cultural program item. The benefit of synergies between them is also a big advantage of IVM. Moreover, the appearance and the communication to the Volvo Cars Corporation will be more professional and efficient.

The 10th SVM, 28 - 30 August 2009 in Interlaken/Switzerland was the first event under the new umbrella organization. IVM 2010 and 2011 are awarded in Germany, France and Luxembourg. In August 2012, when Volvo will be 85 years, the IVM will be back in Gothenburg with a three-day event. In the years between the various organizations carry out their current events in the normal course.
